Successful Demonstration of Jupiter Avionics wiJAC Wireless Intercom System
April 8, 2014
During the helicopter winch line re-certification of Penticton and District Search and Rescue Group, an opportunity arose to demonstrate the potential of the wiJAC Wireless Intercom system. In conjunction with Eclipse Helicopters of Penticton, a stretchered patient was hoisted and taken on a one kilometer circuit, accompanied by each member of the SAR group in turn.
One member of the group was fitted with the hands-free JA68 while the other half of the system, JA69, was installed in a rear jack socket on the helicopter. In addition, a second wiJAC system was installed to establish a link between the helicopter and the ground. Hands-free, full duplex communication between the SAR operative and the helicopter, and between the helicopter and the ground, was quickly and easily established.
Audio quality and intelligibility was considered by all concerned to be better than average, especially in the high noise environment of a helicopter with the doors removed, and hanging on a line in the helicopter rotor-wash.
The line between the aircraft and the SAR operative was 110 feet long (33m). The air to ground communication link was maintained for distances in excess of 500 yards(460m).

JAC's Wireless Headset Adapter - Now with Radio Transmit!
February 24, 2014
Following the highly successful launch of the wiJAC™ wireless headset adapter, Jupiter Avionics is pleased to present the wiJAC-D01 Wireless Dropcord System. The wiJAC-D01 features all the functionality of a standard Drop Cord, but adds the freedom of a wireless system.
The wiJAC-D01 system consists of two components, the JA68 and JA69, which provide a full-duplex wireless and hands-free audio link between the aircraft's intercom and radio system and the user's standard aircraft headset. The two separate components used together allow aircraft personnel to be unencumbered inside and outside the aircraft. The wiJAC™ system is truly 'Plug and Play', using the existing aircraft installation and a standard aircraft headset. Controls on the headset adapter have been kept to a minimum to ensure ease of operation. As well as VOX and Volume controls, there are two buttons: one for ICS PTT and one for TX (Radio) PTT. When TX PTT is activated, the microphone audio is transmitted to the aircraft audio controller and then to the selected aircraft radio. wiJAC™ performance can be optimized using ProCS™ Configuration Software, developed by Jupiter Avionics.
Advantages of JAC's wiJAC™ system:
- Zero time lost to communication systems changeover
- No side-tone delay or echo-cancellation concerns, unlike existing Bluetooth™ systems
- No installation - simply plug the intercom adapter into an existing aircraft headset jack - there's no hard-wiring or base station required
